Narwhal Balsa Ornament nativity Fair tradeKnown as the unicorn of the sea, the Narwhal is a mammal closely related to the Beluga Whale. The males have an ivory tusk which is actually a tooth. It is a sensory organ that can detect changes in the environment that may help them to find food. Made out of sustainably harvested balsa wood, these lightweight ornaments are hand carved and then painted with non toxic acrylic paint by a cooperative of skilled artisans on Isla Solentiname, Nicaragua.
