Blair Edmundston Bayne was from Moncton, New Brunswick. He joined the Royal Flying Corps in Halifax, Nova Scotia as an Aircraftsman 3rd Class in 1917. He was granted a commission in the RFC and underwent pilot training but did not see operational service during the war.
