These tiny, elderly beings with long beards and pointed hats have traditionally looked after farmsteads and animals with great care. As a token of gratitude, people would leave a small bowl of porridge with a pat of butter on their doorsteps for the Tomte. This delightful tradition endures in Sweden today.
