In both these formats, the incredibly useful counter protection can be a godsend so its no wonder theyre so expensive

Other cards like Trade-In or Terraforming may provide more consistent support for the deck's strategy, making Malefic Paradox Gear a situational choice that may not see widespread play in competitive settings
