I don't quite understand these multi-vintage limite dedition wines – not sure of their purpose

"Very deep garnet. Sweetness and complexity and the anticipation of a very big wine. Slightly charry and leathery on the nose. More earthy than the 6048 and more mature in aroma. Damson and other black fruits, plenty of sweet spice and some dried fruits figs.
