Standing up to two metres tall, it is striking for its bright blue skin, red wattles, and tall casque. Cassowaries play a vital role as rainforest gardeners, dispersing seeds over large areas. Their populations are threatened by habitat loss, vehicle strikes, dog attacks, and limited genetic diversity.
