SWEDISH SAILOR'S KNIFE BY GUSTAF JOHAN BERG, CA.1870 when two sons of ThomasThis interesting Swedish sailor's work knife or svensk sjmanskniv, was manufactured by the Eskilstuna cutler Gustaf Johan Berg (company was in existence ca. 1863 1891). Knife is 20. 5 cm long, with a 9. 5 cm blade, maker marked on the ricasso and the brass scabbard, which is also stamped with a model No. 7. Knife has a very nicely carved ebony handle; the high relief scrimshaw depicts budding flowers and tobacco leaves in vignettes, on both sides.
