Carroll Shelby was a successful American racing driver who, when he retired due to ill health, created a new sports car in collaboration with British company AC Cars. He imported fully assembled chassis and bodies from the UK, and back in California fitted a new Ford V8 engine with a T 10 four speed transmission. The result was a superb, lightweight British chassis powered by V8 American muscle and it made history.
