Snowy Plovers (Charadrius nivosus) use coastal dunes for nesting habitat, food, and shelter. A healthy dune ecosystem may also include plants such as Yellow Sand Verbena (Abronia latifolia), Tidestrom's Lupine (Lupinus tidestromii), and Coast Buckwheat (Eriogonum latifolium).
