Clone makes up for this deficiency by letting you copy any creature in play owned by any player, and then Clone takes on that capability as a part of your deck

Despite scaling very very well into the late game Counterspell is usually weaker than Mana Leak, Remand, Memory Lapse and Arcane Denial in the early game
Thats standard enough, but you can also pay four mana instead and overload it to wipe out every creature on the board
