Born in 1862 in North Canterbury, Mannering lived a fascinating life, tinged with personal sadness but full of fishing and mountaineering exploits around NZ. This book recounts those adventures, along with some interesting history the start of women working as bank clerks in 1914, the flu epidemic and the 1931 earthquake.
