This armor is made of steal plating held together with silk cords

With exception of  signs of past use

It dates to mid 20th century

It is finished in the original dark lacquer made up of over 10 coats of tinted urushi lacquer that has worn through in areas and the heavy patina from the centuries is clearly visible

We have placed it on a custom made iron base to elevate this remarkable tansu and bring it to a full 30" height

This would have been used by individuals in positions of significant power and influence. Variously believed to have been used as hunting chairs for leaders of the hunting party (Daimyo, General, etc.) and as kyokuroku chairs by Buddhist abbots for meditation seated cross legged. One of the very few types of chairs used in traditional Japan.
