Elephant handles and a front and back which appears to depict Chinese intellectual scholars from Tang Dynasty China around a broken jar with liquid flowing out of it on the front and a smiling teacher and a pine tree on the back

This is a vintage Japanese lacquer box in red and black with hand painted pine needle decorations

It has ornately figured legs to raise it above the tatami floor where it was used as a small individual table (It is made of cryptomeria wood with over 20 coats of Japanese red and black lacquer
