Jerzy Popieuszko (1947 1984). He was a Polish priest, murdered by communists because he advocated peaceful resistance to their regime. He was a friend of Lech Walesa and was the main priest for the Solidarity trade union. The communists had been trying to kill him for a while. In their last attempt, they pretended they needed help with their car at the side of the road, and lured him to stop and help.
